HISTORY

From Millionaire’s Row to the Denver Square

Henry C. Brown — of Brown Palace fame — homesteaded the land that became western Capitol Hill and donated the site of the State Capitol. Grant Street’s mansions earned the name “Millionaire’s Row” before the Silver Crash of 1893 gave way to the understated Denver Square, streetcar suburbs, and the eclectic mix of old and new that defines Cap Hill today.
